Greensburg is ranked 11th in the IBCA (Indiana Basketball Coaches Association) girls basketball preseason poll. The Pirates of coach Jason Simpson finished 27-1 a year ago – their lone loss came in the Class 3A state title game against Norwell. Greensburg opens the season Friday at Jac-Cen-Del.

The Milwaukee Bucks got past the Indiana Pacers 117-115 in NBA action heard last night on WRBI. Giannis Antetokounmpo hit a turnaround fadeaway at the buzzer to lift the Bucks to the win. He had a game-high 33 points. Paskal Siakam led the Pacers with 32 points. Myles Turner scored nine points in his first game in Indy since leaving the Pacers during the offseason. With the loss, Indiana falls to 1-6. They’ll be back in action tomorrow night against the Brooklyn Nets.

The Cincinnati Reds’ Terry Francona has been named a finalist for National League Manager of the Year. Francona guided the Reds to 83 wins and a playoff berth in his first season with the team…

Although all of Francona’s coaches were invited to stay on his staff for next season, several key changes were announced on Monday. Willie Harris has been named Cincinnati’s third base coach. Harris replaces J.R. House, who is now with the Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff. Bill Haselman takes over for House as catching coach. And Mike Napoli has been elevated to assistant bench coach. He replaces the retiring Brad Mills.

The Reds have traded infielder/outfielder Ryan Vilade to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations. He played in one game for Cincinnati on June 27 against San Diego, and was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on July 4.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor says there will be no changes to his coaching staff following Sunday’s bitter 47-42 loss to Chicago. The Bengals have a bye this weekend.

On Monday Night Football, it was Arizona over Dallas 27-17.

The first College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed tonight. Indiana and Notre Dame are two of the teams throughout the nation who will be paying attention to where they fall in the eyes of the CFP selection committee at this point in the season. Indiana is #2 in the latest AP Poll, and Notre Dame is ranked 10th. IU will face Penn State in State College this Saturday while Notre Dame is home against Navy.

College basketball got going last night for a few teams around the state. Notre Dame started off strong with a win over Long Island 89-67 in South Bend. Indiana State traveled to Charlotte where they fell 92-76. And IU Indy took Ohio State to the century mark, losing 118-102. Tonight, the top-ranked Purdue Boilermakers will take on Evansville. Tomorrow, Indiana will host Alabama A&M, and Butler plays Southern Indiana.
