High School Hoops: Saturday Highlights

South Ripley captured the Southridge Tournament title with wins over Orleans, 62-49, and Southridge, 50-48.

In other boys’ basketball action:

  • Greensburg defeated Hanover Central 52-45 in the Kokomo Tournament.
  • South Decatur bested the host school at the Edinburgh Tournament, 57-53.
  • In the Switzerland County Tournament, East Central fell to Switzerland County 47-46.
  • Jac-Cen-Del split games at the Loogootee Classic, losing to Loogootee 52-48 before bouncing back with a 40-35 victory over North Daviess.
  • Franklin County beat Pike Central 56-44 in the Mitchell Classic.
  • Milan topped Eastern Pekin 71-62 in regular season play.

In girls’ hoops:

  • Oldenburg Academy took its tournament crown, defeating Indianapolis Shortridge 44-37 and Wapahani 45-30.
  • Greensburg earned the Plainfield Tournament title, beating Zionsville 52-37 and narrowly defeating the host team 53-51 in the final.
  • Batesville had a split day at the Scottsburg Tournament, winning over Bedford North Lawrence 43-35 but falling to Seymour 59-40.
  • At the Hauser Tournament, North Decatur defeated the host team 45-23, while South Decatur took down Greenwood Christian 49-36.
  • Jac-Cen-Del dropped games to Ben Davis, 82-19, and Marion, 77-39, in the Richmond Tournament.  

Wrestling: Batesville Battles at Spartan Classic

The Batesville Bulldogs hit the mats at the two-day Spartan Classic in Connersville, competing against 38 teams. Batesville racked up 106 points, earning a 17th-place finish in the highly competitive field.


Colts Collapse Continues

The Indianapolis Colts officially ended their playoff hopes Sunday with a crushing 45-33 loss to the New York Giants, who had the NFL’s worst record entering the game. The Colts have now missed the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year, the franchise’s longest postseason drought in 30 years.

Linebacker Zaire Franklin described the loss as “embarrassing.” The Colts wrap up their season next Sunday at home against Jacksonville, currently holding the 13th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.


Pacers Respond

The Indiana Pacers rebounded from Friday’s loss to Boston with a 123-114 win over the reigning champion Celtics on Sunday. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 31 points, while Pascal Siakam and Andrew Nembhard added 17 each. The Pacers are 16-17 and will aim for .500 when they host Milwaukee on New Year’s Eve.  You’ll hear that game on WRBI.


College Basketball Wrap

In men’s action:

  • Purdue closed out non-conference play with an 83-64 victory over Toledo behind Braden Smith’s career-high 34 points.
  • Indiana held off Winthrop 77-68, led by Myles Rice with 18 points.
  • Indiana State fell to Ohio State 103-83.

In women’s hoops:

  • On Saturday, Indiana dominated Wisconsin 83-52.
  • On Sunday:
    • Notre Dame, ranked No. 3, routed Virginia 95-54 at home, giving coach Niele Ivey her 100th career win.
    • Purdue fell to Iowa 84-63.
    • Butler lost to Seton Hall 69-49.
    • Indiana State was defeated by Northern Iowa 75-65.

Sugar Bowl Showdown

Notre Dame is preparing for a high-stakes matchup against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in New Orleans. Led by quarterback Riley Leonard, the Irish are taking advantage of focused practices without the distraction of final exams. Georgia is a slight 1.5-point favorite, with kickoff scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET.
