Tomorrow morning will be the fifth of six races inside the Southeastern Indiana Racing Circuit Summer Series as Milan will host the Indian Trails 5K. Registration for the race which starts and finishes at Milan Elementary School is available online at stuartroadracing.com. Through four races, Lawrenceburg’s Bradyn Hatton and Patriot’s Alisha Detmer are the current series leaders. The Indian Trails 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
It was a wild one last night at Great American Ballpark but ultimately the Cincinnati Reds could not complete a major comeback, falling to the Atlanta Braves 12-11 in 10 innings. A 3-3 tie through six innings was broken open by Atlanta’s eight runs in the top of the eighth inning but Cincinnati refused to be outdone, using eight straight hits to rally right back, including a game-tying blast by Spencer Steer. Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna drove in the eventual winning run on a sacrifice fly in the Top of the 10th off Reds reliever Emilio Pagan. Cincinnati is now 57-53 and gets a chance at redemption this afternoon at home against the Braves. Coverage on WRBI begins after the noon news block.
The Reds pulled off a third acquisition yesterday prior to the 6 p.m. MLB Trade Deadline. Cincinnati acquired utility player Miguel Andujar from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Single-A pitching prospect Kenya Huggins. Andujar has put together a .298 batting average in 60 games this season with 6 home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBIs. He joins Ke’Bryan Hayes from Pittsburgh and Zach Littell from Tampa Bay has players brought in by the Reds yesterday before the deadline.
The battle for the No. 1 spot on the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback depth chart continues heading into the weekend. Both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones have spent the last three days taking snaps with the first string squad at Colts training camp in Westfield. Colts.com says that both starting quarterback prospects have turned in impressive performances during the three-day span, all of which were camp sessions in full pads.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish began their fall practices on the football field in South Bend on Thursday. Head coach Marcus Freeman says whoever is their starting quarterback is up to the three men vying for the job. Kenny Minchey, CJ Carr, and Blake Hebert are all the candidates. Notre Dame is coming off a season in which they played for a national championship, but came up short to Ohio State in the championship game.
New IU basketball coach Darian DeVries says there have been some growing pains this offseason as he molds and shapes an all-new Indiana Hoosiers squad. They have been practicing once a week for the last ten weeks, as they get ready for a series of games in Puerto Rico next week. DeVries has brought in a whole new crop of players, both from Drake and the transfer portal. The Hoosiers’ Puerto Rico series will begin on August 5th.
The Indiana Fever look to make it four wins in a row tonight down in Texas. Indiana at 15-12 visits the 8-20 Dallas Wings. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30.
