(Lake McCoy, IN) – Firefighters from several departments were called around 10:30 Sunday to a structure fire at Lake McCoy.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the clubhouse building on South Lake McCoy was fully engulfed.

Because of the building’s condition, firefighters were not able to get inside and instead they performed a defensive attack.

The blaze was brought under control in less than two hours.

None of the firefighters were injured while battling the flames.

Investigators say the cause has been determined to be incendiary.

“Arson is not a victimless crime,” said Greensburg Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer. “This is not the first, second, or third time a fire at Lake McCoy wasn’t an accident. Firefighters risk their lives and safety every time one of these properties is illegally burned. This needs to stop before someone gets hurt or worse.”

Stoermer says if residents wish to dispose of a property through open burning, there is a legal process.
