Sentencing in doctor’s animal cruelty case moved to next week

Joseph Stubbers III.

LAWRENCEBURG, IN — Sentencing for a doctor from Dearborn County who was convicted of animal cruelty has been moved to next week.

58-year-old Joseph Stubbers III of Bright took the stand to apologize for his actions. He was convicted in July on three felony counts of Torturing or Mutilating an Animal.

The charges stem from July 2019 when Stubbers hit his dog Cooper with a hammer and shot the dog with a handgun, which resulted in Cooper losing an eye.

Sentencing was pushed to next Tuesday afternoon in Dearborn Superior Court II so that the judge can take additional time to consider sentencing recommendations from both the prosecution and defense attorneys.
