Ruth Deva (Meeks) Catron, 88, joined her loved ones in Heaven today. Above all, Ruth valued family. She spent her life caring for those she loved, beginning with her younger siblings, and later, her husband and children, her grandchildren, and her mother-in-law. Ruth particularly enjoyed cooking for her family and was renowned for her chicken and dumplings, scrambled eggs, and homemade yeast rolls. Ruth took immense joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she wore the mantle of Grandma with great pride and with great grace. She enjoyed reading mystery novels, visiting garage sales and Lifetime Movie Network.
Ruth was born in Gilpin, Ky., and was a long-time resident of Greensburg. Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Estell Catron, Jr., by her son, James Lee Catron, by her grandson, Roy Estal Jackson, by her parents, Hollis (Patterson) and Raymond Meeks, and Christina Wall Catron Rodgers (mother-in-law). Also preceding Ruth in death are her siblings Lela Nolde, Louise Simpson, Vernon Meeks, Billy Meeks, Victor Meeks, Bob Meeks, Lewis Meeks, Karlis Meeks, Mayrene Meeks, Fayrene Meeks, and Ronald Catron (brother-in-law).
Ruth is survived by her daughters: Pam Jackson and Christine Flory, and her son-in-law, Roy Jackson. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Michelle Robbins, Nicholas Jackson, Ashley Younger, James Catron, Jr., Brittany Phillips, Kaitie Flory, Meagan Flory, and Alyssa Flory; and her great-grandchildren, Matt Jackson, Drew Robbins, Shanda Gokcelioglu, Tyler Robbins, Kayleigh Jackson, Keira Jackson, Emma Jackson, Gavin Younger, and Christina Flory-Cordray and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 12:00 pm with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. There will be an additional hour of visitation before the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
