Reds open series with extra innings loss to Nationals

The Cincinnati Reds suffered their 4th straight loss Friday night, falling to the Washington Nationals 6-3 in 10 innings.

Cincinnati seemed to have control of the game early on, surging out to a 3-0 lead through three innings. The three runs came on 1st inning solo home runs by Nick Senzel and Matt McClain and a 3rd inning solo shot by Elly De La Cruz.

The Reds would start to lose grip on the game in the 6th when Nationals right fielder Lane Thomas hit a solo home run to make it a 3-1 game. Washington tied the game in the top of the 8th on a two-run home run by Joey Meneses.

The game would go to extra innings, where the Nationals gained complete control on an RBI double by Jake Alu and a two-run blast by Thomas that ultimately led to the 6-3 final score.

Reds 2nd baseman Matt McClain finished the game 3-5 with a home run, a double, and an RBI.

Alexis Diaz was handed the loss on the mound, allowing 2 runs while striking out 3 in 1 and 2/3 innings pitched.
