Roger J.C. Engle, 86, of Guilford died on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at his residence.
Roger was born in Perry County in Farler, Kentucky, on October 3, 1936, to Fillmore and Tressie York Engle. He graduated from Sunman High School and served in the Army Reserves. Roger married Charlene Hill on August 6, 1960, in Sunman and they enjoyed over sixty-two years together before his death. He was employed at the Monsanto Company as a welder and a mechanic for thirty-five years. Roger was a member of the Sunman Church of Christ. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Roger is survived by two sons: Kevin L.(Donna) Engle of Sunman, IN, and James D. (Anita) Engle of Avon, OH; two grandchildren: Erik (Molly) Engle and Sara (Scott) Pennington; four great-grandchildren: Charlotte Engle, Henry Engle, Olivia Pennington, and Savanna Pennington; one step-grandchild: Donald L. Allen; two sisters: Viola (Gillis) Shepherd and Betty Jo Campbell; a brother: Arlis (Geneva) Engle; and two sisters-in-law: Irene Engle and Barbara Engle, and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter: Kayla Engle; two brothers: Felix and John Engle; two sisters: Maxine Hamilton and Lucille Cox; three brothers-in-law: Rollie Hamilton, Oliver Cox, and Clyde Campbell; and one step-grandchild: Ronald L. Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home ~ 107 Vine Street Sunman with Pastor Mike Haviland officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Evangelical Union Cemetery at Hubbles Corner. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunman Church of Christ, American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
