OA varsity baseball’s early offensive surge leads to easy win over Edinburgh

The OA varsity baseball team struck early and often Tuesday as they defeated Edinburgh 11-3. The Twisters got on the board in the first inning when Clay Eckstein doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. The Twisters scored one more run to make it three in the inning. “We had runners on early in the first inning, and we got our timely hitting. That was something we were missing last night, but it showed up tonight in key situations. We performed 3 unintentional hit-and-runs, which was beautiful to see.” Coach Kolks said.

OA added 1 run in the 2nd and 5th, 2 each in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th innings.

Jacob Hoff was the winning pitcher for the Twisters. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven and walking one. Clay Eckstein and Jacob Cornelius entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. “It was good to see both guys out of the bullpen pitch well. Clay had somewhat of a rough outing on Saturday, and Cornelius hasn’t pitched much this year, so getting him that experience was great.” Kolks added.

Myers took the loss for Edinburgh. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out eight.

Twisters totaled nine hits in the game. Cy Muckerhide, Hoff, and Eckstein each collected two hits to lead the team.

OA will travel to Shawe Memorial on Friday, May 19th, to take on the Hilltoppers, with the first pitch at 5:30.
