The North Decatur girls varsity volleyball team competed against Batesville High School on Saturday. The Lady Chargers played well and were able to take one set from Batesville but ultimately fell, 3-1. North Decatur was active on defense with libero, Hannah Gorrell, picking up 17 digs and receiving 28 serves. Madi Allen grabbed 11 digs and 14 serves. Clare Kinker and Sarah Moeller both picked up 9 digs. Kelsey Haley and Sydney Rohls had 8 and 7 digs, respectively. Moeller also received 14 serves and Kinker had 6. The team worked together to get blocks with Miley Scudder and Kelsey Haley getting 2 assisted blocks each and Ella Kunz and Madi Allen putting up 1 assisted block each. Haley set up the offense with 31 assists. Ella Kunz led the team in kills with 14. Allen and Rohls both added 8 kills and Scudder put away 7 kills. For serving, Allen and Moeller both served 2 aces each, while Rohls, Haley, and Scudder each served up 1 ace.
The Lady Chargers JV team also fell to Batesville, (13-25, 11-25). Jo Whitaker picked up 5 digs, Kendall Hostkoetter grabbed 3 digs, and Ally Whitaker and Oakley Freel both added 2 digs. Maggie Burkhart set up 7 assists. Brooke Mauer and Ally Whitaker put away 2 kills each and Jo Whitaker, Gabi Adams, and Ellie Johnson each added 1 kill. Kendall Hostkoetter and Ellie Johnson both served up 1 ace.
The Lady Chargers play next Monday night at home against Southwestern; JV starts at 5:30. It’s Dig Pink night which North Decatur does to raise money for, recognize, and support those with have been affected by cancer. So be sure to come out, cheer on the Lady Chargers, and wear pink!
