Mr. Bruce Edward Olds, age 67, of Sanders, Kentucky, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 15th, 1953 in Madison, Indiana. He was the son of the late Elizabeth “Fay” (Lucas) Olds and William “Bill” Richard Olds of Vevay, Indiana. Bruce grew up in Vevay, Indiana spending much of his childhood playing hide and seek until dark or board games on the back porch with his sister, Debbie and neighborhood boys. Bruce developed a love for motor vehicles at a young age, building and racing go-kart’s with his father Bill. Throughout his youth and into adulthood he enjoyed basketball; whether it be a game he was watching, coaching or playing. He was an avid fan of IU basketball and anything University of Tennessee. After graduating in 1971 from Switzerland County High School, Bruce continued his education at Roane State Community College. He then attended The University of Tennessee, graduating with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Shortly after, Bruce began teaching at Helmsburg Elementary in Brown County, Indiana where he had the opportunity to instruct many young minds. Bruce was blessed with two daughters, Kelsey and Mallory as well as a step-daughter, Stacy. He had many career changes early on before joining his father back in Vevay at the family body shop, Bill Olds Auto Body. Bruce enjoyed daily lunches with his mother, Fay, bird-watching, holidays with family, gardening, listening to music, laughing with his grandchildren, grilling, camping with his daughters, woodworking, spoiling his faithful canine, Reggie, getaways to Tennessee, classic cars and most of all spending time with his loving companion of 22 years, Peggy. He was a proud member of the Republican Party and supporter of all things patriotic. Bruce passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2020.
He will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Peggy Jones of Sanders, KY; his father, Bill Olds and his spouse, Darlene of Vevay, IN; his sister, Deborah Hackman and her husband, Jim of Melissa, TX; his daughters, Kelsey Olds of Vevay, IN and Mallory Olds of Indianapolis, IN; his bonus children, Stacy McGuire of Florence, KY, Rodney Jones of Lakeside Park, KY, Robin Jones of Warsaw, KY and Robby Jones of Walton, KY; his grandchildren, Hunter, Tristan, Haley, Bryson and Oakley as well as many cousins and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth “Fay” (Lucas) Olds.
