MMH sees gradual drop in COVID inpatients to start October

BATESVILLE, IN — September proved to be a challenging month for the Margaret Mary Health (MMH) inpatient unit, which recorded the highest number of total inpatient days the hospital has seen in decades.

However, in the first week of October, MMH saw a gradual decline in the number of COVID-positive patients and hospital officials hope this trend continues throughout the month. Data from the Indiana State Department of Health also seems to indicate that the number of positive cases across most of the state is also heading in the right direction and declining.

The hospital currently has 21 patients on the Medical/Surgery floor, with two of those patients in the Special Care Unit. Twelve of the patients are COVID-positive. The total percent of hospitalized COVID-positive patients since August 1 who were not vaccinated continues to hold steady around 84%. MMH can provide testing for symptomatic patients at the Main Campus Lab with an order from a primary care provider. To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, contact the MMH Occupational Health & Wellness Center at (812) 932-5105. Appointments are available Monday from 7:30 am until 6 pm and Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm.
