Lt. Gov. Candidates Square Off in Debate

(Indianapolis, IN) – Indiana’s Lt. Gov. candidates squared off in a debate Tuesday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The debate dealt specifically with ag policies and issues impacting rural Hoosiers—since Indiana’s Lt. Gov. oversees both the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

Republican Micah Beckwith unveiled what he calls the Braun Beckwith initiative aimed at reducing govt restrictions on farming.

“It is so important that Indiana begins to be that number one breadbasket – for the state, for the nation and for the world,” said Beckwith.

Democrat Terry Goodin proposed a fair tax plan to ease the burden on Hoosier families and farmers.

“Folks, we’re going to start a revival in rural Indiana – an economic revival. We’re going to embark on a huge infrastructure program, where these communities will have the ability – the revival – of opportunity, hope and optimism,” Goodin said.

Libertarian Tonya Hudson called for abolishing property taxes and reforming the tax code.

“I want to live in a free state,” Hudson said. “I want my family, my friends, fellow Hoosiers to have the same freedoms I long for. We need better government, not bigger.”

The debate was hosted by Agri Institute. You can watch a replay on Hoosier Ag Today’s You Tube channel.
