EDINBURGH, IN — The last Afghan refugees have relocated from Camp Atterbury.
The Department of Homeland Security says more than 66,000 Afghan evacuees have resettled in communities across the United States, with about 700 of them planning to live permanently in Indiana.
More than 7,000 Afghan refugees were housed at the base near Edinburgh after the U.S. pulled out of the country last fall.
Governor Eric Holcomb and other dignitaries celebrated the success of the mission earlier this week.
Only 15 refugees were still at Camp Atterbury at that time.
