Bill dealing with trans athletes and girls sports approved by Indiana House

STATEHOUSE — A bill to keep girls sports for girls only is halfway to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk.

The Indiana House on Thursday approved legislation that would stop someone who is born a male from playing on girls’ teams through high school.

State Representative Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) – a former Ball State women’s basketball player – says the idea is to preserve Title IX and a level playing field.

Democrats say trans athletes deserve a chance to compete.

The bill now moves on to the Indiana Senate.
