John was a tremendously devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, papaw, and friend. He graduated from Mt. Healthy High School in 1966 and attended Morehead College soon after. John was a veteran service member of the United States Army and was a member of the Mason’s (32nd degree). Soon after, he became a firefighter for more than twenty-five years and retired as a highly respected Arson Investigator for the City of Cincinnati. He was immensely proud of that and took his job very seriously. He was a life servant towards the public, his family, and his friends for as long as anyone can remember.
John always said, “You can’t let today ruin tomorrow.” John was always giving out advice to help you grow in a way that he knew would make you feel good and be a better person each day. John had a lot of family and friends who he loved dearly, and he always had a positive outlook on life. John also made sure his younger brother Jim had all that he needed and was cared for properly. He always made sure Jim knew he was loved. John also made sure he went to all his daughter’s doctors’ appointments when she fell extremely ill and was her biggest supporter. He proudly risked his life daily to save another from a burning building and fought for his country’s safety and freedom. He always made sure his wife was taken care of and that his children, family, and friends were too. That was John. You could call him for anything. John was also a man of many talents and loved playing musical instruments, like the guitar and harmonica, singing, making homemade salsa for the whole family, gardening, making marble game boards, working on cars, going to the kid’s sporting events and musicals, and always telling lots of silly jokes. He loved hunting and raising his champion beagles and fishing with friends. John loved his life and lived it devotedly, and meaningfully. He was truly an all-around good guy who overcame many obstacles in life, had an accomplished career, and was a true hero to many.
John is preceded in death by his mother and father, Anna Elizabeth and John Henry Schneider Sr., sister Sandy (Schneider) Privett, brother-in-law, Ronald Bien, his daughter, Heather (Schneider) Owens, and his dog Sarge.

I Am Free
Do not grieve for me, for now I am free
I am following the path that God has chosen for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, or to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I have now found peace at the end of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
But do not be burdened in these times of sorrow
Look for the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored so much
Good friends, good times, and a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seems all to brief,
Do not lengthen your pain with undue grief.
Lift your heart and peace to thee,
God wanted me now – He has set me free.
