(Greensburg, IN) – Property owners near 119 E. Railroad St. in Greensburg are being formally notified ahead of two public hearings next week that will consider proposed zoning variances and a subdivision plat for the site formerly occupied by the Decatur County Jail.
The property is located between Broadway and Franklin streets, just south of the railroad tracks, and is owned by the Greensburg Redevelopment Commission.
According to a notice signed by Sarah Hamer, the city’s building commissioner, adjoining property owners were mailed notice of the hearings as required under Indiana law.
The Greensburg Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled to meet at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Greensburg City Hall, 314 W. Washington St., to consider a request for multiple variances from the city’s development standards. Those requests involve parking requirements, perimeter and interior landscaping, and side and rear bufferyard standards for the Railroad Street property.
Immediately following, at 7:30 p.m., the Greensburg Planning Commission will consider a primary and secondary plat for the same site.
The property is identified as Parcel No. 16-11-11-110-123.000-016 and consists of multiple platted lots totaling approximately 1.26 acres, along with a portion of an adjoining alley.
Hamer said written comments regarding either request may be submitted in advance to shamer@greensburg.in.gov and will be included in the official record.
Both meetings are open to the public, and residents — particularly those owning property adjacent to the site — are encouraged to attend and offer input as the city reviews the proposed changes.
