Greensburg man killed in collision with train

(Decatur County, IN) – A Decatur County man was killed in a vehicle versus train crash east of Greensburg Monday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say a 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by 78-year-old Charles A. Papenhaus of Greensburg turned south onto County Road 200 East from State Road 46 when the driver’s side of his van was struck by a westbound Indiana and Ohio train that was crossing 200 East.

Papenhaus sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither of the train’s two occupants were injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

ISP-Versailles Post investigators were assisted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, the Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.
