GREENSBURG, IN — Greensburg City Council on Tuesday night approved the Pirate Park Build-Operate Agreement.

Council accepted a $966 thousand bid submitted last July by GM Development of Springport, Indiana.

The firm’s managing partner, Greg Martz, gave a brief project recap at a public hearing before the agreement was approved by council.

The project, which has been in the works for a number of years, calls for building concession stands, restrooms, storage areas, and infrastructure such as sidewalks.

Once completed, the park near Greensburg High School is expected to attract out-of-county tourists and sports tournaments.

Martz said construction is scheduled to start in April and take 10 months to complete, which would be a few months before the start of the 2023 spring soccer season.
