INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Before visiting Greensburg Wednesday for the rollout of the statewide PFAS collection program, Gov. Eric Holcomb (pictured) signed 25 bills into law and issued a veto.
One of the new laws will gradually lower the state’s individual income tax rate from 3.2 percent to 2.9 percent over the next seven years.
He also signed a measure that will require everyone working in Indiana schools to have their background checks on file.
The new law requires staffing companies and contractors to share employee background information checks with schools in an effort to prevent some school employees with questionable backgrounds from falling through the cracks.
Gov. Holcomb also issued his first veto of legislation approved during this year’s General Assembly session.
House Enrolled Act 1211 would have expanded legislative oversight.
The Governor sent a letter to House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) that stated his opposition to the measure.
One of the reasons given was that the bill contained added language that would have jeopardized $154 million in broadband projects.
