LAWRENCEBURG, IN — Formal charges have been filed against the suspect in a stabbing and robbery that happened on August 11 at the VP Racing Fuels gas station in Lawrenceburg.
Forty-four-year-old Clinton C. Hulsey was charged in Dearborn County on August 13 with Robbery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 2 Felony; Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony; and Criminal Mischief, Class A Misdemeanor.
Police say when they arrived on the scene, a store clerk was found with blood coming from his left arm as well as his face. The clerk stated that an unidentified white male came into the station, grabbed him by the hair, stabbed him in the arm, and then took cash from the register and ran out.
Lawrenceburg Police detectives went to Hulsey’s place of employment in Northern Kentucky and spotted the black Jeep fitting the description seen on surveillance footage and learned the registration returned to Hulsey. He allegedly stated it was his vehicle and that he did not remember being in Lawrenceburg. Halsey told police that he had smoked methamphetamine on the day of the incident and did not remember anything after work.
When detectives showed Hulsey surveillance photos, he allegedly admitted that he was the person in the photos and that he had “messed up”.
Hulsey was arrested on August 12, less than 24 hours after the incident. He was taken to the Boone County, KY Jail, and later waived extradition to Indiana.
At his initial hearing in Dearborn Circuit Court on Tuesday, bond was set at $500,000 surety and $5,000 cash. Hulsey is being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said, “Thank you to the concerned citizens who spoke up and thank you to Lawrenceburg Police, the (CVG) Airport Police and the Boone County Sheriffs Department who worked quickly to apprehend a dangerous robbery suspect in less than 24 hours of this alleged act occurring.”
