Donald Louis “Don” Mathias Sr., 90, of Dillsboro passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Waters of Dillsboro. Don was born on Tuesday, April 30, 1935; son of Hubert and Ethel (Kohlerman) Mathias. Don served in the United States Army and worked as a designer for Rolls-Royce Engines in Indianapolis. He married the love of his life, Alice (Lohrum) Mathias in 1960, and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2024. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat. Don greatly enjoyed woodworking.
Don will be missed by his son Don Mathias Jr. of Dillsboro; grandson Anthony Mathias; and great-granddaughter Brooklyn Mathias.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro with Rev. Jared Tucher officiating. Memorials may be given in honor of Don to the Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department or Til Valhalla Project.
