Greensburg, IN — Decatur County Commissioners will hold one evening meeting each quarter this year.
Those meetings will take place at 6 pm on March 6, June 5, September 5, and December 4 in the Commissioners Room at the Decatur County Courthouse.
Jeremy Pasel touted the idea during his campaign for District 2 Commissioner.
He says a number of residents work during the day and cannot take off to attend a Commissioners’ meeting at 8 am on Mondays.
Pasel wanted to have 50 percent of the meetings held at night, but the board agreed to a trial run of four evening meetings in 2023 to gauge public participation and demand.
“I hope it’s a step in the right direction so that we can have more meetings at a more accessible time in the future,” Pasel said.
Commissioners will continue with the traditional 8 am Monday meetings on all other scheduled dates in 2023.
