(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Memorial Hospital is proud to announce that the recent Men’s Health Tailgate attracted a record-breaking number of participants interested in receiving preventative screenings.
This achievement marks a pivotal step in fostering a healthier community, with men of all ages engaging in essential health assessments, educational resources, and wellness initiatives.
The event was held in the new state-of-the-art Rehabilitation & Medical Offices building on November 9, 2024.
The Men’s Health Tailgate provided attendees the opportunity to experience a range of free essential health screenings and services.
Over three hours, 120-plus patients received various assessments, including A1C, Blood Pressure, Lipid Panel, PSA, Mental Health Assessment, Shoulder Assessment, Skin Cancer Screening, and Sleep Assessment screenings. Attendees also had the option to receive flu vaccinations.
The DCMH providers at the event performing the free screenings included Dr. Isaiah Steffen, Dr. Scott Washburn, Dr. Amanda Williams, Marie Menchhofer, FNP-C, Kelly Miller, FNP-C, and Desirae Moore, LCSW. These screenings were made possible thanks to the generous support of the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County (Hospital Foundation) and Lohrum Electrical, LLC.
Many attendees could also schedule appointments with DCMH Radiology for heart scans and/or lung scans, providing critical insight into personal health. Lung scans can help detect lung cancer early, giving you the best chance at successful treatment, while heart scans check for calcium buildup in your arteries to assess your heart attack risk. Participants also received referrals to family medicine providers or specialized services such as the Sleep Clinic and Senior Life Solutions at DCMH.
“DCMH’s screening events have the power to save lives—at a past event, DCMH helped discover an undiagnosed form of cancer in someone who otherwise may not have known. By offering these screenings, we are dedicated to giving our community the tools to understand their health and, hopefully, to catch any concerns early,” said Mary McCullough, MD. “This is our commitment to a healthier, informed future for all.”
Beyond the medical services offered, participants enjoyed a delicious breakfast made by the DCMH Dietary team, spoke with DCMH department representatives in the “Health Zone,” engaged with Family Medicine nurse practitioners Marie Menchhofer and Kelly Miller, and took guided tours of the new building.
This successful health screening event is a testament to the commitment of over 40 DCMH employees who volunteered their time and expertise, creating a memorable and meaningful experience for all who attended.
“We’re honored to bring essential health screenings to our community, making healthcare more accessible and removing barriers to quality care for all,” said Liz McCoy, Manager, Marketing & Communications at DCMH.
