DC Council approves vote center plan; commissioners table action

DECATUR COUNTY, IN — While Decatur County Commissioners tabled action, Decatur County Council approved the vote center proposal this week.

The plan calls for the county to move away from precinct-based election polls and replace them with 11 vote centers around the county.

Decatur County Clerk Adina Roberts told both bodies that the required public hearing was held, and only two comments on the plan were received during the 30-day public comment period, but both were in favor of the proposal.

Roberts informed Commissioners that not all of the voting centers will be in the Greensburg city limits, which has been a top concern of theirs.

Now that County Council has signed off on the plan, it still needs approval from Commissioners and the County Election Board before it would go into effect starting with the May 2022 primary elections.
