Bulldogs Split Games With Trojans

The Batesville Bulldogs snatched the lead late in the game in a 9-6 victory over East Central on Monday. The game was tied at six with the Bulldogs batting in the top of the seventh when freshman Jack Grunkemeyer doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Batesville collected nine hits and East Central had eight.

Batesville got things moving early in the game. In the first inning, Riley Zink singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Eventually, the Bulldogs led 6-1 in the fifth inning. Travis Lecher was counted in the run total solo home run in the fourth inning.

East Central knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the sixth inning. East Central scored three runs in the sixth inning. East Central scored its runs on a home run by Derek Richter.

Sam Voegele was the winning pitcher for Batesville. Voegele surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one and one-third innings, striking out two.

Richter took the loss for East Central. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out four.

Seth Risley started the game for East Central. Risley surrendered five runs on five hits over three innings, striking out three. Zink started the game for Batesville. The right-hander lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out eight

The Bulldogs collected nine hits on the day. Trey Peters and Voegele each managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs. 

The win vaults the Bulldogs to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the EIAC. Batesville will complete against 4A #1 ranked team in Columbus North on Tuesday.

The JV Bulldogs couldn’t seem to get things going offensively as they fell to the East Central Trojans 11-1.

Chris Lewis, Nate Vankirk, and Derric Gunter had a hit apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs go to 2-1 on the season and will play the Trojans again on Thursday.
