Bulldogs Split Battle With Knights-Still Win EIAC Crown

In a game of top conference foes, South Dearborn scored first in the third inning and then three runs in the fifth inning to secure the 5-2 victory against the first place in the EIAC Batesville Bulldogs. SD’s big inning was driven by a sac fly by Dylan Wynn and a double by Reese Willoughby.

Ryan WIlloughby pitched The Knights to victory. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.

Trey Peters took the loss for the Bulldogs. The righty allowed six hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six and walking zero.

Riley Zink led Batesville with two hits in three at-bats.

Corbin McHenry went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead South in hits.

The loss ends the twelve-game winning streak for the Bulldogs and puts their record at 18-5 and 10-3 in the EIAC. Batesville and SD will compete for the conference title on Saturday before they play each other in sectional play.

Bulldogs Are Victorious Over Knights To Claim The EIAC Title Outright
The Bulldogs beat South Dearborn 7-4 on Saturday to claim the EIAC title outright for the first time since 2010. The Bulldogs did also win the EIAC title in 2019 in a four-way tie.

Batesville opened up scoring in the first inning when Riley Zink drove in two when he doubled.

The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third inning, and had a big inning in the fifth, putting up four more runs. The Bulldogs offense in the inning was led by Jack Grunkemeyer, Sam Voegele, and Willy Sherwood, all driving in runs in the inning.

Jacob Meer took the win for the Bulldogs. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Voegele, Will Habig, and Max Baumer entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Logan Thies took the loss for SD. The pitcher allowed five hits and six runs over four and a third innings, striking out five.

Batesville collected seven hits on the day. Grunkemeyer and Trey Peters each had multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

South scattered seven hits in the game. Tobie Teke and Corbin McHenry each racked up multiple hits for The Knights.

The win completes the regular season for the Bulldogs. They finish the season with an overall record of 19-5 and 11-3 in the EIAC. The win makes the Bulldogs the EIAC champions for 2021. Batesville will play South Dearborn in a rubber match in the first round of sectionals on Wednesday, May 26th at 6:30 at Lawrenceburg High School.
