Bulldogs Defeat Pirates In Baseball Action

Two Pitchers Team Up As the Bulldogs Shut Out Greensburg.

Batesville defeated Greensburg 7-0 on Monday in a big EIAC matchup as two Bulldog pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

The starter for the Bulldogs, Alex Roell, earned the win for Batesville. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs, four hits, and striking out five. Lane Oesterling came in relief for Batesville and pitched one and one-third inning and did not allow a hit.

The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead in the first inning and did not look back. Batesville scored on a single by Trey Heidlage in the first inning and a single by Alex McPherson in the second inning.

The game was 4-0 entering the seventh, but the Bulldogs scored three runs in the final inning to stretch the lead. Batesville’s big inning was driven by a bunt single by Quinn Werner.

McPherson led  Batesville with four hits in five at bats. The Bulldogs didn’t commit a single error in the field. Zach Britton had the most chances in the field with seven.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in the EIAC (2nd place). Batesville will celebrate senior night at Liberty Park on Tuesday, May 2nd at Liberty Park vs. Franklin Central at 5:30 pm.
