Bad babysitter faces charges

Lawrenceburg, In. — An incident with two toddlers has led to criminal confinement for a Lawrenceburg man.

Monday morning at 9:40 a.m. police were notified about two young children running on Arch Street with no supervision. Through the use of Smart 911 and social media police quickly identified and contacted the mother in the 400 block of St. Claire Street.

When police arrived at the home, the door was open and police found garbage and food on the floor in the living room and kitchen areas. The mother of the children arrived shortly after and told police Jarad Elsen was supposed to be watching the children.

Elsen told police he had been sleeping with the children and got up to get cigarettes. When Elsen left the home there was a gate zip tied in place to keep the children in the room. The children lifted the gate and crawled out of the room and ultimately out of the house. Elsen told police he intentionally placed the zip tie on the gate to keep the children from leaving the room.

Elsen now faces two counts of criminal confinement and two counts of neglect of a dependent, all felonies.
