SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. — Scott County’s needle exchange program gets at least another year.
The State Health Commissioner, Dr. Jerome Adams, has extended the public health emergency declaration until May 2017.
An outbreak of HIV was identified early last year.
Since that time, 191 people have tested positive for the virus that causes AIDs.
Most of them were also found to be infected with Hepatitis C.
The outbreak has been traced to the sharing of syringes by intravenous drug users.
