(Batesville, IN) – Decatur Central took home the boys championship trophy at Saturday’s second annual Raver Relays track and field meets.

The Hawks scored 104 points; host Batesville was second at 92, followed by Franklin Central, Jennings County, Rushville, Milan and Tindley.

Batesville won the girls meet with 98 points, followed by Jennings County, Franklin County, Decatur Central, Rushville and Milan.

The event honors the late Ron Raver, who devoted more than 60 years to the sport of track and field.

Action began Saturday morning at 10 with field events while the running events started at 10:30.

Coach Raver relied heavily on managers in his later years, so the meet was paused in the middle and each team had the opportunity to honor one manager. Each of them were presented with a jacket in their school colors as a way of thanking them for all they do.

After all events were tallied, Decatur Central boys won the hardware, beating Batesville by 12 points, 104-92. Franklin Central was third with 65, just one point ahead of Jennings County (64). Rushville came in fourth at 40 points; Milan sixth with 19 and Charles Tinley scored two.

“Since many of these events are not your typical events in a regular season meet, some personal bests, unfortunately, couldn’t really be counted,” said BHS coach Lisa Gausman. “For instance, a 200m split in the 4 x 200 would not be the same as a regular 200 since you are not really starting from a stopped position.”

The following achieved personal bests, according to Gausman:

  • The 400 splits of Abby Miller, Noah Davis, Chris Stenger and James Rowland as well as the overall time of this 4 x 400 team (+Ethan Lacey & Blake Hornberer) plus the girls overall time (Bayleigh Demaree, Maycee Holtkamp, Maggie Jelenik)
  • The 800 splits of Caitlin Raver, Levi Essick, Ethan Raschulte and Cash Myers
  • 100m hurdles-Maggie Jelenick
  • Girls 4 x 100m relay (Savannah Pohlman, Maggie Jelenik, Addison Luers, Katie Lipps)
  • Long Jump-Savannah Pohlman

The Bulldogs next meet is Tuesday at South Dearborn where they will compete against the host Knights, Franklin County, Cincinnati Christian and Madison. Field events begin at 5:30 with running events at 6 p.m.
