Batesville outlasted South Dearborn 64-55 in overtime in boys basketball heard last night on the Sports Voice. The Bulldogs Cade Kaiser led all scorers with 23 points while teammate Trenten Luers added 13. Kaiser becomes the 10th player in Batesville boys basketball history to score 1,000 career points. The Knights were led by Wyatt Adams with 16 and Scout Gray with 15 points. Batesville improves to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the EIAC while SD falls to 11-7 and 4-2.
Elsewhere, Class 2A #3 South Ripley nipped Southwestern (Hanover) 55-54. The Raiders stay undefeated at 18-0. Blaine Ward led the way with 28 points while Cole Henry chipped in 15 for the Green and White…It was East Central over Lawrenceburg 56-51…Milan squeaked by Rising Sun 66-65…Greensburg topped Rushville 51-36…North Decatur outgunned Waldron 59-54…and Morristown beat South Decatur 59-55.
Girls basketball sectionals move into the semifinal round tonight, and the Sports Voice will bring you a doubleheader. South Ripley faces ORVC rival Southwestern (Hanover) at the Class 2A Sectional on the Raiders’ home court, followed by South Decatur against Mid-Hoosier Conference foe Waldron at the Class 1A Southwestern (Shelby) Sectional. In other girls sectional semis involving area teams, Batesville takes on Jennings County and top-ranked Greensburg faces South Dearborn in 3A action at Lawrenceburg; in 1A, North Decatur plays Morristown in the other semifinal at Southwestern (Shelby); Oldenburg faces Milan in the early 1A semi at Hauser, followed by Jac-Cen-Del against Shawe Memorial in the nightcap; and East Central goes up against Franklin Community in the 4A sectional at Columbus North.
The Pacers beat the Los Angeles Clippers 119-112 on the West Coast in a game heard late last night on WRBI. Paskal Siakam recorded a double-double, scoring 33 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for Indiana. The Pacers remain in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers tomorrow afternoon.
In college basketball, several media outlets are reporting that Mike Woodson is not expected to return as Indiana mens’ basketball coach next year. Woodson, an IU alum, is expected to be done coaching the Hoosiers at the end of this season. Both Woodson and the school are currently in talks about the details of the exit. IU is 14-9 on the season, in 10th place in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have lost their last four games. Woodson is 77-49 in his four years leading the Hoosiers.
And the seventh ranked Purdue Boilermakers are home tonight against the USC Trojans. Tipoff in West Lafayette is at 7:00.
