Violet Mae Gunter, age of 88 of Batesville, Indiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2019. The daughter of Edward and Anna (nee: Probst) Hornberger was born on December 30, 1930 in Dearborn County, Indiana. She married Harold Gunter on June 2, 1951 at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, Bluecreek in Sunman, Indiana. He passed away on July 6, 2009.
Violet was an amazing wife and mother. She was a caring woman always thinking about the needs of others. Her kids referred to her as the perfect farm mom, so of course she was a terrific cook too. The family favorites included fried squirrel, rabbit, soups, custard pie, banana pudding and the infamous sugar cookies.
Violet also worked for Hill-Rom in Housekeeping for over 25+ years. The lifelong resident of Batesville was a member of Adams Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid at church as well.
Throughout her life she and her husband, Harold, enjoyed listening to the sounds of the big band orchestral music and dancing along to it. They loved farming and living a simple life with those they cared for. Violet always loved tending to her garden, flower beds, and birds. She was often known to be found outdoors or out working hard with her hands. There are fond memories of her plucking chickens and cleaning turtles. She liked spending time socializing at the grocery and going to her exercise classes. Above all else, she loved her family deeply and the little ones held a special place in her heart.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Daniel Gunter of Osgood, Eugene “Goose” (Elene) Gunter of Batesville and Bev (Dean) Whitaker of Batesville; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as countless other friends and family members.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Paul Hornberger, Helen Hill, Mildred McGuffy, Emma Gray, Clarence Hornberger, Edna Wolljung, and Ruth Enklebrink as well as cherished daughter-in-law Denise (Dan) Gunter.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Adams Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Friday October 4, 2019 at Adams Lutheran Church.
