Mildred O. “Micky” Platt, age 81

MICKYPLATT

Mildred (Micky) Opal Shell Platt, age 81, of Brookville, Indiana, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at her residence.
Born September 5th, 1934 in Osgood, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Silas and Fanny Estridge Shell. On August 3, 1968, she was united in marriage to Eldon Dale Platt at Western Hills Church of Christ in Cincinnati, and he survives.
Micky was a 1952 graduate of Brookville High School. She also graduated from Cincinnati Bible Seminary with a Bachelor of Sacred Literature Degree and graduated from the Christ Hospital School of Nursing. She worked full time in the emergency room at McCullough Hyde Hospital in Oxford, Ohio until her first child was born. After that, she was a homemaker, except working part time for several years as a nurse for Dr. Seal in Brookville, and filling in at Dreyer Nursing Home for a nurse who was on a temporary leave of absence.
Her education at Cincinnati Bible Seminary helped in making wise decisions in everyday life with herself, family and church family. She used her nursing skills to help others. For example, she volunteered as Camp Nurse at Mahoning Valley Christian Service Camp, taking her role very seriously, as she loved to work with children. She was especially good at comforting those going through difficult times with kindness and compassion.
Micky was a devoted member of the Brookville Church of Christ, where she helped lead a children’s choir called “Joyful Noise” when her children were young, and also led a ladies Bible study called “Adventures in Christian Living,” as well as, worked in the nursery, Vacation Bible School, and other ministries of the church.
Besides Dale, her husband of over 47 years, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jenni and Jeremy Souders of New Lisbon, Indiana; and one son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Susan Platt of Laurel, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Tabbi, Dee Dee, Micki, Kari and Jay Souders, and Cole, Cloe, Carter and Cilas Platt; brothers, Ed Shell, Ron Shell and Nelson Shell, sisters, Geneva Slagle, and Mattie Sampson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl Clause and Betty Tirey, brothers, Chester Shell and Art Shell, and grandson, Jeffrey Caleb Souders.
