Bulldogs Grapplers Results At EIAC Meet

WrestlingThe Batesville High School wrestling team traveled to Connersville to face off against their Conference rivals at the 2015 EIAC wrestling meet. The dogs finished in 6th place in front of 7th place Rushville and 8th place Connersville. South Dearborn were this year’s conference champs followed by Franklin County in 2nd, Greensburg 3rd. Lawrenceburg 4th, and East Central in 5th place.

The Bulldogs were only able to fill seven of the fourteen weight classes for the meet; but still was able to bring one conference champ back to Batesville. All of the competing wrestlers came away with valuable experience that will get them ready for the Sectionals starting in just one week.

Senior captain Will Amberger in the 195 lb class wrestled a perfect day defeating all three of his opponents by pin. Amberger’s first match faced him off against Hunter Nichols of Rushville , where he earned six takedowns before finishing the match with a pin. Amberger’s second opponent, Noah Boyd of Lawrenceburg, experienced Amberger’s takedown clinic by allowing seven takedowns before falling by a pin. This win sent Amberger to the finals to face off against Dario Guintini of East Central. Guintini was no match for Amberger giving up five takedowns before falling by pin which crowned Amberger as the 2015 Conference Champ in the 195 lb class. The 18 takedowns on the day brought Amberger’s season total to 101 which is a new BHS season record.

Senior captain Neal Nobbe in the 160 lb class and Junior John Moody in the 126 lb class both finished the day with a third place finish. Nobbe was able to pin three of his opponents falling short to just one opponent by a 2-0 decision. These three pins for Nobbe brought his season total to 22 which is just three short from the BHS school record. Moody pinned two of his opponents and fell short to the eventual champ by a 17-2 decision.

Freshmen Jackson Wooldridge in the 120 lb class and Laiken Hanna in the 113 lb class both wrestled well earning 4th place finishes on the day.

Sophomores Hunter Fetters in the 106 lb class and Chris Schene in the 132 lb class represented BHS well by ending their day in the 6th place position.
