Leah Rae Woolwine, 87 years old of Logan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2023. Born and raised in Covington, KY, Leah still attended monthly luncheons with her fellow alumni from Holy Cross High School and was proud of her great nephews that currently attend the school. Many around town will remember Leah as their bus driver for the Sunman Dearborn School Corporation. For 35 years, you could find Leah in the driver’s seat as she drove the morning and afternoon school bus, the field trip bus, the sports game bus, and everything in between. She owned 10 buses plus a spare and taught numerous people how to drive a school bus while coaching them to obtain their CDL license.
Adding to her love of driving, Leah was always up for a road trip. Regardless of her beater car, she would load the kids up for a fun road trip to Gatlinburg, Michigan or Florida. At 70 years old, she was still taking impromptu road trips to Florida in November because the weather was better down south. But, as soon as she began missing her family, Leah was back on the road heading home. No matter where Leah was, you could always find her with a trusty disposable camera. She loved taking pictures and would quickly run through the 27 pictures available on the camera then take it to the store to get developed. Those pictures would find their way into the many boxes and boxes of albums Leah kept at home. As recently as this summer, Leah was still walking around with a disposable camera.
A huge Cincinnati Reds fan, Leah watched every game with her scorebook and stats in hand. Every summer she was excited to attend at least one Reds game with the highlight being eating a stadium hotdog as soon as she got there. She loved playing cards at Shady Nook, but you had better keep your attention on the game or she would get upset that you weren’t focusing. She also enjoyed playing bingo there. Leah taught her children strength by working four jobs at a time to take care of them. She taught them love by taking care of her aging parents for 20 years. She taught them good character by never saying anything bad about anyone. And, she taught them about faith by leading by example. She attended mass at St. John in Dover and St. Teresa in Bright, prayed the daily rosary, and knew her boys would be waiting in heaven to greet her.
Leah will be deeply missed by her children Debra (Greg) Turner, Lori (Dean) Miller, Tobey (Jill) Woolwine, and daughter-in-law Daelle Woolwine; siblings Jack (Lee) Reagan and Diana (Mike) Walker; grandchildren John Klump Jr., Justin (Nicole) Klump, Joe (Jasmine) Klump, Amanda (Josh) Gulley, Kelsy (Steven) Hartman, Melissa (Justin) Reynolds, Sam Woolwine, Yulie (Stacey) Mucker, Alex Woolwine, Aaron Woolwine, Nick, Michael & Jake Woolwine, Adam Woolwine; great grandchildren Brayden, Austin & Aubrey Klump, Adalyn Klump, Alaina Calpin, Adalyn & Kinslee Gulley, Wesson Hartman, Jordyn & Keeleigh Reynolds, Keilani, Anaya & D’kari Mucker; many nieces & nephews, dear friends, and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her children Harold Jr Woolwine, Sammy Woolwine, and Daniel Woolwine; son-in-law John Klump, parents Alera and John Reagan Sr., and sister Mary Jane Glenkler.
