(Dearborn County, IN) – Indiana State Police arrested a motorist after she allegedly drove intoxicated the wrong way on I-74 in Dearborn County and collided with a trooper’s vehicle early Sunday morning.
ISP says troopers patrolling the interstate shortly before 1 a.m. overheard a Dearborn County dispatch about a car going west in the eastbound lanes near the Indiana/Ohio state line.
Several 9-1-1 callers told dispatchers that a Toyota Camry was heading west in the eastbound lanes.
Trooper Brian Weigel spotted the car traveling in the wrong direction near the 161-mile-marker and positioned his vehicle in front of hers.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Erin Dowers of Cincinnati, entered the median to avoid the trooper’s cruiser.
State Police say the two vehicles collided at a slow speed, and the car continued west before another Trooper Jordan Hartmann assisted in getting the car to stop.
Dowers was arrested and booked in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.
ISP says Sgt. Jared Black and Trooper Jordan Craig also assisted with the investigation.
