William L. “Bill” Chipman

William L. “Bill” Chipman, 83, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

He was born August 23, 1937 in Moorefield, IN, son of the late Buford Chipman and Bessie (Brandon) Chipman.

He served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Rising Sun Honor Guard. Bill worked as an Engineering Foreman for Monsanto, retiring after over 38 years of service. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Aurora. His faith was very important to him. He served as Deacon in the church. He was also a member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge #51, where he served as Master for 4 terms, He received the Award of Gold for being a 50 year member. Bill was also a member of Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Cincinnati Shriner’s, Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club,Versailles Eastern Star, Gideon’s International and the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59. Bill enjoyed farming, and raising cattle. His greatest joy, was his wife Bonnie and family.

Bill loved life. He gave his all in everything in which he was involved. He touched many lives and will be remembered for his amazing work ethic. He never asked anyone to do anything that he wouldn’t do himself. Bill was an honest man and known for his integrity. He was a man of his word. He will be missed by all.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bonnie (Baker) Chipman; children, Stephen (Becky) Chipman of Dillsboro, IN, Susan (John) Boss of Westfield, IN, Sandra (Clyde) Burgess of Indianapolis, IN, Shawn (Tracy) Chipman of Ghent, KY, and Scott (Leigh) Chipman of Aberdeen, IN; brother, Buford Wayne (Annie) Chipman of Dewberry, IN.; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 11:00-2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 6060 Blair Rd., Aurora, Indiana. Masonic services will be held at 1:45, prior to the service.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor Bill Secrest officiating.

Interment will follow in the Rising Sun New Cemetery, Rising Sun, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Rising Sun Honor Guard.

Contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. If unable to attend services, please call the funeral home office at (812) 926-1450 and we will notify the family of your donation with a card.

Due to the current situation dealing with COVID-19, we are following the directives from Governor Holcomb and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning large events and mass gatherings. The family deeply appreciates the support and love shown from friends, but the health and well being of everyone in our community is of top priority. We are asking everyone who will be in attendance to please remember the social distancing guidelines at all times, and the wearing of masks is required.
