Wilbur E. Tressler, 98

Wilbur E. Tressler, 98, of Greensburg, passed away on January 5, 2026.
He was born on March 30, 1927, in Fleming County, Kentucky, the son of Everett and Vergie (Bate) Tressler. Wilbur was a 1945 graduate of Napoleon High School. He proudly served his country as a United States Army Staff Sergeant during World War II.
On October 3, 1948, Wilbur married Colleen Ann Robbins. Together they shared many years of marriage and welcomed one son, Daryl. Colleen preceded him in death on August 19, 2009. Wilbur later married Irene Vote, who survives.
Wilbur was a lifelong farmer who took great pride in his work and his community. He was honored as Optimist of the Year by the Greensburg Optimist Club, a recognition that reflected his quiet dedication to helping others. Known for working behind the scenes, Wilbur’s name was one often heard when something needed done.
A devoted supporter of local youth and athletics, Wilbur attended North Decatur Charger games faithfully, holding a lifetime pass and earning recognition as the school’s number one fan. When he could no longer attend in person, he continued to watch the games on the YouTube channel, with his son.

Wilbur’s community involvement spanned decades. He served as a former Township Farm Bureau Leader and was actively involved with the 4-H Extension Office. He organized and coached Clarksburg Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams and cared for the baseball diamonds for many years. He served as chairman of the Decatur County United Fund Drive and as president of the Decatur County YMCA. He received the Distinguished Community Service Award for Outstanding Farmer in Fugit Township at the Tree City Fall Festival.
In addition, Wilbur served on the Fugit Township Advisory Board, was a member of the Lake Santee Kiwanis Club, and held positions on the boards of the Decatur County REMC and the Decatur County Council for Youth. He was a longtime member and elder of Springhill Presbyterian Church.

Wilbur E. Tressler will be remembered for his steadfast service, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community.

Survivors include: son, Daryl (Carol) Tressler; grandson, Greg Tressler; granddaughter, Amanda Tressler; great grandchildren, Caden Tressler and Aubrey Tressler. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Colleen.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Springhill Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Jerran Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
