Walter Henry “Whitey” Nelson, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Aurora, passed away March 1, 2017 in Fort Myers, Florida.
He was born March 2, 1922 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Walter F. Nelson and Anna (Haller) Nelson.
He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII as a mechanic as well as a pilot. Whitey married the love of his life, Agatha “Aggie” McKain.
He worked for Seagram’s for over 30 years, with a good portion of that being in the Shipping Department.
Walter was a former Moose and Legion member in Ft. Myers, Florida and also a former VFW and Legion member in Aurora. He enjoyed pitching in softball, boating, bowling, trap shooting, fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are sons, Barry L Nelson of Cincinnati, OH, and Darwyn L. (Brenda) Nelson of Lawrenceburg, IN; grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Hoog, Doug (Tina) Nelson, Kevin (Kim) Nelson, Gina Nelson; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter F. and Anna Nelson, and his loving wife, Agatha Marie Nelson, son, Robert, brother, Edward and sister, Mary.
Friends will be received Wednesday, March 8, 2017, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Pastor Charles Hill officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rising Sun New Cemetery, Rising Sun, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.
