Virginia Back

Virginia F. Back, 81, of Sunman died on Monday, February 13, 2023, at St. Andrews Health Center in Batesville.

Virginia was born in Sunman on October 8, 1941, to Frank E. and Anna E. Braun Schantz. Virginia married Victor Back on June 25, 1960 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in New Alsace and they enjoyed over 59 years together before his death on January 25, 2020.She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, the Ladies Solidarity, and former president of the National Council of Catholic Women. Virginia enjoyed farming, sewing, cooking, traveling and spending time with family. She researched and updated the family tree on both sides of the family. She also enjoyed singing and led the singing at St. Paul’s Church for over 40 years.

Virginia is survived by one son: Kevin Back of Lakeland, FL; three daughters: Karen Lozier of Fishers, Kaye Johnson of Burlington, KY, and Kristie (Scott) Gabbard of West Harrison; five grandchildren: Brittany (Jason) Moon, Victoria (Coty) Williamson, Bradley Lozier, Vanessa Johnson and Marissa Gabbard; two great-grandsons: Vincent and Lincoln Moon; a sister: Marcie Schutte of Millhousen; a close friend: Henry (Hank) Steinmetz.  Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sons-in-law Kevin Raike and John Johnson; and two sisters: Rosemary Hountz and Philma Kuebel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Parish – St. Paul Campus in New Alsace with Fr. Jonathan Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home ~ 107 W. Vine Street Sunman with Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Campus Cemetery or to Clara A. Back Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Franklin County Community Foundation.
