(Versailles, IN) – The Versailles Courthouse Square Historic District was officially recognized last week at the Indiana State Fair as of 34 Indiana additions in the past year to the National Register of Historic Places, and the Indiana Register of Historic Sites and Structures.
Versailles Community Development Director Holly Wehr accepted the award on the town’s behalf.
This marks the end of a two-year-plus process that puts Versailles on a prestigious list of historically significant sites across the state and country.
The designation allows property owners of contributing structures in the courthouse square district to have access to historic tax credit programs and grant funding to help preserve, rehabilitate, and restore these important buildings.
“This recognition honors our past while opening the door to an even brighter future for our historic downtown,” reads a statement from the Town of Versailles.
