Two CPD Officers Receive Letters of Commendation

Columbus, IN — Columbus Chief of Police Michael Richardson recently awarded two Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers Letters of Commendation for their actions in assisting an elderly woman who did not have food, water, or electricity in her apartment.

On January 28,  CPD Officers Chris Strickland and Adam Wisenbaugh were dispatched to a local residence to check the welfare of an elderly woman. When the officers arrived at her apartment, they discovered that she did not have food, water, or electricity in her residence. Since a hot meal site was not open, Officer Strickland purchased food for the woman using his own money. Officer Wisenbaugh believed that the elderly woman would be more comfortable staying at a local hotel rather than a homeless shelter due to her age and he worked with a local charity to get her a temporary hotel room.

In the Letter of Commendation, Columbus Chief of Police Michael Richardson commented, “Thank you for taking the extra steps necessary to make sure this resident was properly cared for. It is easy to overlook much of the good work that is done by our law enforcement officers when the focus is only on preventing crime. We know that our officers have many roles and sometimes that involves being a caretaker for those who are less fortunate.”

Officers Strickland and Wisenbaugh have both served the City of Columbus as police officers for nearly six years.
