Greensburg, In. — A Decatur County resident faces 23 years of incarceration after reaching deals in four separate cases before Superior Court Judge Matthew Bailey.
First, Sean Bower pleaded guilty to aggravated battery, criminal confinement and strangulation. In another matter before the court Bower pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a dangerous violent felon, the third plea deal was on a charge of driving while suspended. For those three cases Bower was ordered to serve 13 years in prison.
For those three cases it was determined that Bower was in violation of probation. For that charge he received another 10 years of home detention.
Prosecutor Nate Harter said, “Mr. Bower was provided a gift in 2011, when he received a probation-only sentence for a serious drug dealing offense. He violated that probation by committing physical violence against another person. Even then, the Court gave him the opportunity to leave jail pending trial, if he would abide by the conditions of home detention. He failed that opportunity by having drug paraphernalia and firearms hidden from police in his bedroom pallet. He will now receive the opportunity to go to prison and receive programming aimed at beating his addiction issues and focused on rejoining society. When he returns we will have the opportunity to monitor him during the home detention portion of his sentence. I sincerely hope he takes advantage.”
The guilty plea agreements together called for a total sentence of twenty-three years, and permitted Bower’s executed time in prison to be eligible for Purposeful Incarceration due to his prolonged use of drugs. Felons convicted of Level 3 and 4 felonies serve ¾ of their sentences when in prison or on home detention.
