The Batesville Boys Soccer team traveled to Shelbyville High School to compete against the Golden Bears winning 1-0.
Just a few weekends ago Batesville had previously played them in their invitational where we lost 2-1 in the final round of the tournament. So far in the season, the Bulldogs had only lost to this team making their record 8 wins and 1 loss.
The Bulldogs were eager to get another shot at them. The game started off intense. 17:51 left on the clock within the first half Junior Eli Pierson scored from an assist by Junior Ian Powers. Batesville played a great game defensively, several close calls, but nothing to answer back to our early lead.
The second half we held on and focused on closing down the Golden Bears. Keeper Ethan Brewer made many impressive stops and the Bulldog’s backline remained strong until the very end. We had several shots more close shots on goal, but couldn’t sink another before the time ran down. Batesville wins 1-0 against Shelbyville bumping the record to 9 wins so far on the season.

The Batesville Bulldogs Boys’ Junior Varsity Soccer team traveled to Shelbyville. The JV team came out on top after an exciting match that included many goals from both teams with a final score of 5-4.
Batesville got down early but continued to fight back and capitalize on many opportunities. Sebbie Trainor scored the first goal unassisted after taking a great shot well outside of the box that went right over the keeper’s hands and into the back of the net. Soon after, the Bulldogs had an indirect kick inside the box that was dropped from Owen Powers to Ian Carpenter, swung over to Trainor for the shot that was blocked but followed up by Thomas Hartman who scored the goal. The Bulldogs were tied 2-2 at half but continued to put the pressure on Shelbyville’s defense.
Early in the second half, Powers hit Emi Lopez in stride down the sideline which led to Lopez beating the keeper for a goal. After that, Grant Peters had a corner kick placed into the box that was hit by Solomon Butz in front of the net, deflected by Powers, and eventually put in by Noah Pierson. The fifth and game winning goal came off of a cross from Hartman on a direct kick to the far post that was finished by Peters. JV put on their best offensive performance of the season and look to continue to build off of that after moving to 2-1-1 on the season.

The 7th grade lost in 2 sets with final scores of 25-22 and 25-14. Serving for SLS were Ella King with 6pts, Mimi Smith with 5pts, and Ava Hollins with 1pt. These girls worked a new rotation and did well with it. Some great net play and back row play kept us in the game and a few great serving streaks.

Serving for SLS were Cora Roth with 7pts, Rachel Suttmann with 4pts, and both Meg Ritter and Lucy Abplanalp with 1pt each. Some great net play by Rachel Suttmann left her with a block and some great kills. Lucy Abplanalp also had some nice sets over the net to catch them off guard for a few points. Overall a great job for the Lady Cardinals.
