(Statewide) – Tuesday is tax filing deadline day for most Americans.
Tax Day is normally on April 15, but this year it fell on Saturday.
Today (Monday) is off-limits because of the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia.
If you need more time to file, you have until tomorrow to request an automatic six-month tax filing extension.
However, the IRS says individual taxpayers need not have to go through any long process, but simply fill out Form 4868.
While these extensions can give you more time to find missing documents and finish up the necessary paperwork, they don’t give you more time to pay.
Financial experts agree that if you owe taxes and want an extension, you’ll need to estimate your tax bill and pay as much of it as you can to avoid a late payment penalty.
