Mr. Herbert Leon Peelman, age 80, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 16, 1942 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, Herbert Lee Peelman and Blanch E. (Romans) Martin. He was raised in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where he attended school. Leon was united in marriage on September 26, 1963 to Joan Carol Wiltz in Kerman, California. This union was blessed with three children, Darrell, Karen and Cheryl. Leon was employed for various auto body shops in Switzerland County and Jefferson County, Indiana for several years. He worked briefly in security for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana. Leon was a former deputy sheriff for Switzerland County for a few years. Leon was a former minister for many years at the Vevay Church of Christ in Vevay, Indiana. He also owned and operated Peelman’s Wrecker Services in Vevay, Indiana. Leon enjoyed tinkering on cars, woodworking, carpentry and drinking coffee, as well as, watching westerns and the news on TV. Leon loved his family deeply and spending time with them brought him great joy. Leon was known for his goofy character and loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Leon passed away at 9:10 pm Saturday April 15, 2023, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, IN.
Leon will be missed by his son, Darrell Peelman and his wife, Beverly of East Enterprise, IN; his daughter, Cheryl Scudder and her husband, David of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren that he loved deeply, Seth McFadden of Vevay, IN, Alicia Carr and her husband, Josh of East Enterprise, IN and Destine Smith and her husband, Sam of Navarre, FL; his great-grandbabies, Jaylin and Justus; his sisters, Laverne Wagner of Vevay, IN and Mary Lou Shaw of East Enterprise, IN and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Laverne (Peelman) Harsin, died August 30, 1990; his father, Herbert Lee “Herb” Peelman, died August 11, 1997; his mother, Blanch E. (Romans) Martin, died April 9, 1992; his step-mother, Mary T. (Swango) Peelman, died April 24, 2012; his step-father, Oscar Roger Martin, died November 30, 1994; his infant brother, Kenneth Peelman, died January 2, 1939; his brothers, Robert L. “Bob” Peelman, died October 29, 2000, Leslie “Johnny” Peelman, died April 28, 2012, Richard Charles “Rick” Peelman, died March 3, 2016 and Harold Peelman, died December 2, 2019 and his nephew, William Dewayne “Bill” Peelman, died June 18, 2003.
Private services are being held.
Interment will be held in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
