Pendleton, In. — Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter recently announced the promotion of Trooper Eric Fields to Detective to serve in the Internet Crimes Against Children unit. Fields was chosen for his new position after competing in a process that included written testing, oral interview, seniority, education, and past job performance.
Fields, a Randolph County native, graduated from Union City Community High School in 1999. After high school Fields attended Ivy Tech Community College and completed an associate degree in Business Administration before going to work for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department as a road deputy in 2002. In 2008 he applied for and was accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy. Fields graduated in December of that year and was assigned to the Connersville Post.
While at the Connersville and Pendleton Districts Fields served as a defensive tactics instructor and driving instructor. In 2011 he applied for and was assigned to the Mustang traffic enforcement unit. Last year Fields conducted over 40 presentations to local area schools and businesses regarding the Indiana State Police Unarmed Response to Active Shooter program as well as numerous Internet Safety presentations, with topics including but not limited to, sexting, texting and human trafficking.
In May of this year Fields received an award as a “Pediatric Hero.” The Indiana Emergency Medical Services for Children organization recognized Fields as a “Pediatric Hero” for his work to “protect, enhance and save lives of children in our communities.” In his new position Fields is assigned to the Indiana State Police Special Investigations Section to investigate Internet Crimes Against Children.
