North Vernon, In. — The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close State Road 7 Thursday, July 26 to replace a box culvert at Six Mile Creek located 0.3 miles north of the S.R. 3 junction at North Vernon.
Motorists will be routed around the work site via S.R. 3 and the U.S. 50 bypass (S.R. 750). INDOT officials say the closure will be in effect for up to 20 days.
The new S.R. 7 Six Mile Creek precast box culvert measures 66 feet in length with a 10-foot rise and 12-foot span.
Dave O’Mara is the state’s contractor for this $2,634,279 multi-structure project. Two box culverts—both requiring closures—remain to be installed:
- S.R. 3 at Poplar Root Creek in Decatur County, 8.6 miles north of S.R. 7, between CR 1300S and CR 1400S
- S.R. 3 at Wyaloosing Creek in Decatur County, 16.1 miles north of S.R. 7, north of Westport
Under this contract, the state has replaced the S.R. 7 single-span bridge at Turnover Creek north of Sardinia and a nearby culvert, and small structures in Jennings County on S.R. 3 located 1.9 miles north of S.R. 7 and 2.6 miles south of S.R. 7.
After remaining installations have been completed, contracted crews will return to structure sites for paving operations. At that time, flaggers will direct traffic around workers and equipment.
