On Monday, the St. Louis Lady Cardinals traveled to North Decatur for volleyball and brought home a split.
Coach Erin Trenkamp reports the 7th grade Cardinals won 25-14 and 25-16. Serving for SLS were Campbell Miles with 22 points and 5 aces, Mimi Smith 7 points and 1 ace, Jersey Trenkamp 6 points and 2 aces, Grace Gutzwiller 2 points and Olivia Leising 1 point.
“These ladies were making great digs by moving and seeing the ball,” said Trenkamp. “Front row play was also alert and sending back what they barely sent over. Nice job by the Cards to bring home this win.”
The Lady Chargers won the 8th grade match 25-20 and 25-21.
Serving points for St. Louis were Cora Roth with 11 points and 3 aces, Rachel Suttmann 6 points and 3 aces, Sophia Hohenstein 3 points, Bridget Lohmueller 2 points and 1 ace, and Ashley Hunter 1 point.
“It took us a bit to wake up to the game, but once we did, we fought hard,” noted Trenkamp. “Serving errors were a huge problem for us which bled into other areas for a brief bit. Rachel Suttmann, Cora Roth, Bridget Lohmueller and Isabel Imel were alert at the net making a few key plays to bring us back. Overall, these ladies never gave up and fought hard both games.
North Decatur also played a recent match against Edinburgh. The 8th grade Chargers fell 25-8 and 25-16.
